People management is becoming increasingly regulated and the penalties for non-compliance are damaging – both for the organisation’s finances and its reputation. However, on a more positive note, get your employment strategy right, and you can harness the goodwill of your employees, resulting in improved motivation and performance.

We believe that one of the ways that we can deliver greatest value to our clients is by helping our clients to form their approach to important developments such as employee information and consultation and diversity. We also provide strategic advice and support at the outset of major projects. As well as offering an up-to-date employment legal service, we also help manage any day-to-day issues that arise. Our clients value this early response and ongoing support, to help achieve a positive end result, no matter how complex or sensitive the issues involved.

We also help with management training on how to implement change and avoid Employment Tribunal proceedings. However, if a claim is unavoidable, we have extensive experience of successfully handling employment litigation claims for our clients, including offering skilled advocacy. One of our partners is an Employment Tribunal Chairman, who provides clients with valuable insights into how any case might be seen by the Tribunal. Our success in Tribunals is evident in the long-term relationships that we have with clients for whom we carry out Tribunal work (several of which are over ten years’ standing).

All of our employment partners and many of our lawyers are recognised as leaders in this field and offer cutting-edge advice. For instance, one of our partners has chaired the Employment Lawyers Association and is currently its Vice President, giving us insight into the latest issues and involving us in policy-making. Several have also worked in-house for major corporations and understand the opportunities and challenges that arise. According to Chambers & Partners 2005, we have a "City-like approach and attitude” and are “top choice among clients, this effective and highly regarded team leaves the competition behind.”

We act for organisations ranging in size from multinational businesses to established regional companies. Our teams have particular expertise in their chosen markets of financial services, media and marketing, technology, transport, manufacturing, as well as on large projects, including mergers and acquisitions and outsourcing.

Examples of our recent experience include:
  • advising Nortel Networks (UK) Ltd on employment law issues
  • advising on a number of high profile sex discrimination claims for City clients.
